What is a typical cash settlement for loss of vision in one eye ( happened at job)?

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

My husband had a work related accident in the state of Illinois, USA. He sustained 3 surgeries and couldn't work for 4 months. As a direct result of this accident, he has lost most of his vision , for life, in that eye. He is going to try to go back to doing the same job, but none the less, he is still without vision in that eye for good. Does anyone have any idea as to what a good cash settlement (from worker comp insurance)would be for a situation like this? Thanks.

Car accident settlement?

Thursday, February 17th, 2011

My family was in a vehicle accident last year. We immediately got a lawyer as my 10 yr daughter was in a great deal of pain and my 6m old car was totalled. The other party was found at full fault and his insurance company covered vehicle cost replacement and rental vehicle. My insurance is covering medical bills. My husband had a jambed/bruised finger and a sprained ankle and was offered 00, my daughter had a broken collar bone and was in a sling for 8 wks and was unable to ride a bike or play hard for 4 months. We recently put her in counseling (10 months after vehicle accident) due to anxiety driving with my husband and scared to die in another vehicle accident. She was offered ,000. We are not ready to settle but does that sound like reasonable compensation due to injuries? This is not the actual take home due to lawyers fees. Do you have a similar story with settlement amount you could share?
My lawyer called me yesterday and said that these are the LATEST numbers. He suggested in this area a jury wouldn't give me more and said he was shooting for ,500. I'm not looking to get rich from this I just want my daughter to be REASONABLY compensated for her pain and suffering. Since lawyer was unaware of counseling, we have decided to hold off until she is 100% recovered which could be another 6 months. My husband did not lose any work from this accident but I took 1 1/2 vacation days because their insurance co. took forever to claim liability which stalled the rental car and my daughter had to see a specialist because the ER did not see the fracture in her collar bone and then insurance co. took a month to compensate me on my car loss. The medical coverage was due to me having it on my insurance policy --so far no medical other than copays for therapy have come out of my pocket. I have been told since I wasn't in the vehicle that my loss means nothing even though this was

Lawsuit Settlement… sued for 3.2 million… how much should i look at getting?

Sunday, February 13th, 2011

I was in a horrible car crash a year and a half ago. We hit a guard rail that was left in the highway by a construction company. It was clearly their fault. I came out of the side of the van at 80mph and tore 75% of the skin on my back off. I spent 6 weeks in and out of a burn center going through burn treatment. I missed work for 4 months and then couldn't continue in the line of work I was in. There were 7 of us involved in the accident, But I was the only one with major injuries.

I sued for 3.2 Million dollars. We go to mediation in the next 6 weeks and the Construction company express they want to settle out of court. What am I looking at as a reasonable number that I should agree on?

Anyone with any info, I would greatly appreciate it. I would like to have some insight before I go.

Thank you.

Is this a good lawsuit settlement?

Wednesday, January 19th, 2011

My friend's grandmother suffered from heart problems and was scheduled for an operation 4 months ago. The doctor that performed the surgery said it was a success and that she will be better. However, she never recovered from the anesthesia and fell into coma. A week later the doctors discovered a small hole in the repaired aorta and she was put under the knife again in a different hospital. That operation closed the hole, but unfortunately she died. His parents sued the hospital responsible and last week settled for 50,000 dollars. Now, I know money will never bring her back but do you think this was a smart settlement.

can someone who is on government assistance be cut off if they recieve a car accident settlement?

Saturday, December 11th, 2010

i am currently on government assistance and i was in a car accident april 29 2008 and my lawyer told us( mom passenger, bro driver, nephew 6 years old at the time and my daughter who was only 4 months at the time were all in the car) that it would take about a year to get the settlement so this year april i should be expecting settlement money and i asked my lawyer from the get-go that i was on government assistance and would it effect my assistance and he said no, but i don't think he understood the question. i was also told that i may get ,000 for the settlement which is a lot of money so when my caseworker finds out i got this money wouldn't they cut me off. i understand if they would but when all the money is done what then? cuz i pay 0 for rent and 0 for bills and my daughters and myself basic needs every month. so without the assistance i would have to use the settlement money to pay rent and bills till it runs out cuz i don't work.....well not yet cuz im a single mom and my child is now only one. so does anyone know anything about this????

How much money can we expect from a car accident settlement?

Thursday, November 25th, 2010

My dad got into a car accident exactly one year ago this month, the guy ran a stop light and T-boned him basically. He rendered my dad's car totaled and caused him to hurt his back so he had to go to physical therapy for months. My dad was also left without a car for almost 3 months. The other guy who hit him was at fault 100% and his insurance company Liberty Mutual waited almost 4 months before giving him a rental car for 3 weeks [wtf? 3 weeks? his car was totaled for months! He couldn't even get to work!]. Since then they have FNIALLY paid for his car loss, but he had to repair it himself.. they just gave him the alleged "worth" of the car and he had to buy it back from them in order to keep it for repairs.

Aside from the car stuff.. his medical pay and settlement money is still not here!! WTF?! a whole year long car accident case?! My dad's lawyer is Allen&Allen, so about how much can he expect for the settlement? Will it be more just because of the ridiculous length of time it's taking to settle all of this?

How much should I expect for an auto accident settlement? Tips to increase this?

Friday, November 19th, 2010

Some details:
The accident happened a little over 2 yrs ago.

I was not at fault - it was an elderly woman who took out 3 other vehicles.

I have had upper neck pain (base of skull) and horrible evening headaches since the accident. I went through about 4 months of physical therapy and on and off chiropractic work. (I don't know the medical costs although I would guess around 00? - bills have all been covered by the insurance company)

The headaches aren't gone, but are infrequent enough that my own insurance could cover the chiropractic visits from here out.

My car has already been totaled and I received a lowball NADA value for it.

Any tips for negotiating my settlement? Do they really have a formula based on medical bills? What factors play into my final settlement amount? Keywords?

Not interested in a lawyer and their 30-40% cut!

I was involved in an auto accident in which the vehicle was totaled out. The vehicle has already been settled. I received a hairline fracture of the lower jaw (which the dentist left heal on its own); along with severe nerve impingement, severe case of spinal subluxations (shiftment of the vertabraes) & sciatica. I spent 4 months going to the Chiropractor & 2 months going to physical therapy. I do have slight pernament damage in the form of slight sciatica & nerve impingement & will have to forever seek chiropractor and/or medical care do to my injuries derived from the accident (final release statement from the chiropractor). I occured ,000 in Medical Bills & ,500 in Lost Wages. I have an attorney representing me in the case; however what would be a fair settlement amount on this case?
